Im Laufe der Zeit wurde der Inhalt immer umfangreicher und der Themenbereich fortlaufend erweitert, sodaß der Fokus bald nicht mehr alleine auf Jeanne d'Arc beschränkt war. Ich entschloß mich daher, die Gestaltung und Struktur der Website rundum zu erneuern und der veränderten Zielsetzung Rechnung zu tragen.
Es entstand die Website Zipango mit dem Online-Magazin terra incognita dem in unregelmäßigen Abständen ein eigenes Thema gewidmet ist.

Ngizim is a member of the West Branch of Chadic and is hence related to Hausa, the dominant language throughout northern Nigeria. Ngizim's closest linguistic relatives are, however, Bade, spoken north of Potiskum in Bade (Bedde) Emirate, whose capital is Gashua, and Duwai, spoken east of Gashua.
Accurate census figures for the number of Ngizim speakers are not available, but 100,000 speakers would not be an unreasonable guess. The pre-eminent traditional ruler of the Ngizim people is Mai Potiskum, Alhaji Umaru Bubaram, whose court is located in Potiskum. Like all the traditional rulers of northern Nigeria, Mai Potiskum is the prime Islamic figure for the Ngizim people, but a large number of Ngizims are Christian.
Unlike some of the other languages in Yobe State, Ngizim has very little dialect variation. The Ngizim people pronounce the name as "Ng@z@m" (@ = a high central vowel, a "barred i" in the International Phonetic Alphabet). The origin of the name is uncertain. The same root is used in Bade to refer for various ethnic or regional variations of closely related languages, not just the people currently referred to as "Ngizim". The table below shows the current autonyms for the people and language as well as the terms in Hausa and Kanuri, for many centuries the dominant linguistic and cultural force in northeastern Nigeria.

The dominant linguistic and cultural force until the mid 20th century was Kanuri, but in recent decades, Hausa has become the universal lingua franca for all of northern Nigeria, including Yobe State. Bade is a member of the West Branch of Chadic and is hence related to Hausa, the dominant language throughout northern Nigeria. Bade's closest linguistic relatives are, however, Ngizim, spoken to the south, around Potiskum, and Duwai, spoken east of Gashua. (Duwai is a distinct language and should probably be included as a sixth language indigenous to Yobe State.) Bade is dialectally very diverse, to the extent that one could really speak of several "Bade languages". There are three main dialect varieties: Western Bade, the variety with the largest number of speakers, spoken over the western half to two-thirds of the Bade area, some of the larger Western Bade speaking towns being Amshi, Dagona, Tagali, Madamuwa, and others; Southern Bade, spoken to the southeast of the Western area and south of Gashua, with some of the main Southern Bade-speaking towns being Katamma, Katangana, Gorgoram, and others; and Gashua Bade, spoken in the city of Gashua, by far the largest town in the Bade-speaking area, and villages fanning out around Gashua. There is, moreover, considerable variation within each of these three dialect varieties, with virtually every village having its distinct features. Particulary notable is the town of Karege, more or less at the boundary between the Western and Gashua areas, where the dialect has a unique mix of features from the two dialect varieties.

BOLE is a language spoken in Yobe and Gombe States of northeastern Nigeria. About 250-300,000 people speak BOLE, making it among the largest languages in the region, perhaps surpassed only by its linguistic cousin HAUSA, the dominant language of all northern Nigeria and the sub-Saharan language with the most native speakers, and KANURI, the historically dominant language of northeastern Nigeria over the past few centuries. BOLE is a member of the Chadic Language family, and belongs to the same main sub-branch of that family as Hausa, though linguistically Bole and Hausa are probably no more closely related than, say, English and French.

As in most African nations, dozens of distinct languages are spoken in the Senegambia region of West Africa. More than 20 African languages are reported in Terminologies Nouvelles , though Ethnologue includes dialects and non-African languages to arrive at the number of 36 for the languages spoken by groups living within Senegal's boundaries (Mbodj 1994; Ethnologue 1996). However,the majority of Senegal's population has adopted an African language as their means of intergroup communication. Although Senegal's government has followed the trend to keep their former colonizer's language (French) as the official language, Senegal's peoples have developed Wolof as their lingua franca. Additionally, Wolof and five other prominent African languages have been made "national languages", a status which allows them to be used in schools where the majority of students speak one of these six as a native language (Malherbe 1989).

In Amerika heißt der Elch "Moose". Der Name wurde dem Tier von einem Stamm nordamerikanischer Ureinwohner, den Algonquin Indianern, gegeben. Sie nannten ihn "mooswa", was "Tier, das Bäume entrindet" bedeutet, und damit auf eine übliche Nahrungsaufnahme des Elchs bezogen ist.
In Nordamerika lebt ein Tier namens "elk". Dabei handelt es sich jedoch um den "Wapiti-Hirsch". Da der Elch in Großbritannien ebenfalls "elk" heißt, führt dies manchmal in Unterhaltungen zwischen Amerikanern und Engländern verständlicherweise zu Verwirrung.

Die am 18. April 2006 gestartete polnische überregionale Tageszeitung DZIENNIK hat die Erwartungen von Axel Springer Polska, dem polnischen Tochterunternehmen der Axel Springer AG, übertroffen. DZIENNIK verkaufte im Mai laut den aktuell veröffentlichten Zahlen der ZKDP, dem Kontrollverband der polnischen Pressedistribution, durchschnittlich täglich 259 039 Exemplare und belegte damit Platz drei unter den polnischen Tageszeitungen. Die geplante Zielauflage von 150 000 verkauften Exemplaren wurde damit deutlich überschritten. Mit DZIENNIK und FAKT, der auflagenstärksten Tageszeitung Polens, erreichte Axel Springer Polska einen Marktanteil bei nationalen Tageszeitungen von 44 Prozent.
Die Stadt spiegelt aber auch weite Teile europäischer Geschichte wider. Als "Byzanz" und "Konstantinopel" war es Zeuge wütender Kriege, blühende Handelsmetropole und Ort, wo Schicksale ganzer Völker entschieden wurden. What is an ism?
In a busy workplace, during an important phone call, when you're not quite sure of your ground or when you’re simply trying to sound knowledgeable, sometimes the words that come out of your mouth can make you sound like a complete idiot - generally to the amusement of your colleagues who are listening in. Members of the ISMS always listen in, that's how we get most of our isms.
Isms, as collected by the ISMS, come from work colleagues under pressure, meetings with clients, radio and television broadcasters and so on, but all are genuine and have been heard at first hand (if that’s possible?).
Our "isms" are generally categorised as "malapropisms", "mixed metaphors", the occasional "spoonerism" and attempts at using foreign phrases, but many are just downright nonsense that sound correct, if said with conviction, until analysed by trained professionals like us at the ISMS.

Mamaka Kaiao is the Hawaiian language dictionary published by the Hale Kuamo'o. It contains words not printed in the "Elbert/Puku'i Hawaiian language dictionary" printed by the University of Hawai'o Press, and many new lexicon coined by the Komike Hua'olelo (Hawaiian Lexicon Committee) to address the needs of curriculum in the Hawaiian Language Immersions Schools as well as in current day living.
Both dictionaries are being prepared so that people around the world will be able to search for Hawaiian words via the World-Wide Web. It may be ready by October or November, 2003. The links will be posted here when they are ready.

This on-line dictionary contains close to 5,000 Hawaiian-English and English-Hawaiian words. These are most of the frequently used words and definitions. In the Hawaiian language, most words have multiple meanings and sometimes hidden meanings. When the language is spoken, the understanding comes from the context of what is being said. We used "Mary Kawena Pukui and Samuel H. Elbert's dictionary" as a reference for our dictionary on-line. It is important for the Hawaiian culture to preserve and continue the use of the Hawaiian language. We hope this will be a relatively good guide to some commonly used Hawaiian words and the Hawaiian translations of certain English words. In den letzten Jahren hat sich Hawaii wieder auf die kulturellen Traditionen der Ureinwohner besonnen. Ein erster Schritt, diese Tradition zu achten, war die schrittweise Einführung der ursprünglichen Schreibweise alter hawaiischer Namen und Begriffe.
Eigentlich wird überall auf Hawaii Amerikanisch gesprochen, viele Kinder von Einwanderen sprechen darüber hinaus auch noch die Muttersprache der Eltern - Chinesisch oder Japanisch zum Beispiel. Nur auf der Privatinsel Niihau, die für Besucher unzugänglich ist, reden die Bewohner fast ausschliesslich in der alten Sprache Hawaiisch, für die Kinder hier ist es noch die Muttersprache. Aber die Insel hat nur knapp 300 Bewohner und man schätzt, dass über die Inseln verstreut nur noch knapp 2.000 Menschen, meist ältere, die Sprache beherrschen. Die Zeitung "Ka Hoku O Hawai´i" erschien bis 1948 in Hilo - es war das letzte von zuvor fast 70 verschiedenen Blättern.

These words phrases appear in our stories but may not be known to some readers. Primary sources are the "Hawaiian Dictionary" (University of Hawai'i Press) and Pidgin to da Max (Bess Press).
Two diacritical marks are prevalent in the Hawaiian language: the 'okina, or glottal (') and the kahako=, or macron. (Most fonts can't show the kahako=, which is a line over the appropriate letter. Therefore, we do not use them in Island Scene Online stories. But an "=" after the appropriate letter indicates a kahako= in the English Font version of this glossary.)

Documenting the American South (DAS) is a collection of sources on Southern history, literature and culture from the colonial period through the first decades of the 20th century. It is organized into the projects listed above. The Academic Affairs Library at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill sponsors DAS, and the texts come primarily from its Southern holdings. An editorial board guides its development.

Crazy Horse Memorial, the world’s largest sculpture, now in progress, is located in the Black Hills of South Dakota on US Highway 16/385 just 17 miles southwest of Mount Rushmore. The work was begun in 1948 by sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski at the request of Native Americans. Korczak died in 1982. His wife Ruth and their family continue the project working with the Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation.

A native of Eurasia, Russian knapweed was probably introduced to North America about 1898 as an alfalfa seed contaminant. Russian knapweed is a relatively new weed to South Dakota and is not widespread. Although this species has infested less than 4,500 acres in the state, it is considered a statewide pest.
