Growing Tips

(E6)(L?) http://www.pickeringnurseries.com/tw/Web_store/growingtips.htm

Roses like clay soil, although they may be grown successfully in a variety of soils, as long as a good amount of organic matter is worked in. Very heavy soils are best improved by replacing at least half with sandy loam or sharp sand; also gypsum and/or perlite may be added.

For more growing tips, browse this page.

Rose Grades

Auf dieser Seite findet man Hinweise zur Kategorisierung von Rosenstöcken.

The following information pertaining to rose grades has been taken from the American Association of Nurserymen publication "American Standard for Nursery Stock". This is the commonly accepted standards used industry-wide in North America. While there are Canadian standards published and they are similar in general to the American standards they are neither as specific nor as quite as demanding for roses.

Shade List
Schatten-Liste
Rosen, die Schatten vertragen

(E6)(L?) http://www.pickeringnurseries.com/tw/Web_store/shadelist.htm

The following varieties are ones which we feel are best suited for planting in partial shade. Partial shade being dappled light under a canopy of trees or in a position where they will only receive 4 or so hours of sunlight. There are other varieties that are suitable, notably the Rugosa, Alba, Centifolia and Hybrid Musk varieties.

While these varieties will do well in part shade they will do best in full sun.

In answer to a very common question: Roses DO REQUIRE some sunlight to grow. You can’t plant them in deep or almost complete shade.

The following varieties are suggested as good choices for cutting and arranging for the home gardener. There are others that are as good or even better, but these ones have been gathered from conversations at the counter of our garden centre over the years.
