Das Zauberwort "Abrasax" ist vermutlich eine Umformung von "Abraxas". Dieses wiederum ist in der Gnostik eine geheime Bezeichnung für Gott.

Man findet solche Geheimzeichen und Formeln heute noch auf Amuletten oder Siegelringen. Sie beruhen auf Zahlenmystik. Die Herkunft wird dem Gnostiker Basilides, der seine Phantasien in Alexandria verbreitete. Die Herkunft des Wortes ist ebenso mystisch wie der Spuk selbst. Möglich wäre, dass sich das Zauberwort "Abrakadabra" darauf bezieht.

der geheime Name Gottes in der Gnostik (auch "Aeon" genannt) wird spätgriech. für "Zauberformel" benutzt und heute für "Zauberwort" auf Amuletten. Es geht zurück auf den Gnostiker Basileides (365 n.Chr.). Das Wort "Abraxas" setzt sich möglicherweise aus den Anfangsbuchstaben hebr. Gottesnamen zusammen.

So the "Sphinx" (which incidentally means "joining" in Greek) is the meeting point of the zodiac, indicating that the Egyptian priests believed the starting point of the earth in relation to the zodiac lay in Egypt, on the banks of the Nile.
