Gorlach, Manfred - Indian English: Texts and Interpretation
(Varieties of English Around the World)
Gebundene Ausgabe: 158 Seiten
Verlag: John Benjamins Publishing Company (Januar 1998)
This volume presents Indian English texts drawn from diverse sources and a variety of registers and domains. It provides a sociolinguistic description of the Indian situation, and the forms and functions of English in this setting. Based on his collection and analysis of English used, the author reflects the variation within the country along with various dimensions: historical, regional, ethnic, social and stylistic. Textual analysis is divided into five groups: 19th-century texts; literary texts by both Indians and non-Indians; newspaper English; miscellaneous texts; and spoken English texts.
