falsche freunde

Worte, die auf englisch oder französich (oder in anderen Sprachen) ähnlich geschrieben und/oder ausgesprochen werden, aber eine andere Bedeutung haben als auf deutsch nennt man "falsche Freunde". Die sich anbietende Übersetzung führt in die Irre. Manchmal kann dies eine harmlose Bedeutungsverschiebung sein; es kann aber auch zu massiven Mißverständnissen kommen.

Auch optische oder akkustische Fehlleistungen können zu falschen Interpretationen führen. (Wieviele Namen sind wohl in vergangenen Zeiten falsch ins Geburtsregister eingetragen worden, weil der Verwaltungsbeamte ihn falsch verstanden hat?) Deshalb sind auch ein paar Links zu Seiten mit Beispielen "sinnlicher" Fehlleistungen mit aufgenommen.

Faux amis: Des mots anglais "faux amis" de mots italiens; leur graphie se ressemble, mais le sens est différent. Pour savoir que "brave" ne signifie pas "bravo", mais "coraggioso" et que "dent" n’est pas "dente" mais "ammaccatura".
