Dem Namen nach geht der londoner Stadtteil "Tower Hamlets" wohl auf eine Ansammlung von Häusergruppen zurück (engl. "hamlet" = dt. "Weiler", wörtlich dt. "Heimleinchen"). Im 11. Jh. kam der markante "Tower of London" dazu. und so entstanden die londoner "Turmdörfchen".
