Einen konkreten Hinweis, wieso dieser Film den Titel "The L Word - Wenn Frauen Frauen lieben" trägt konnte ich nicht finden. Mir bleibt deshalb nur übrig zu vermuten, dass das "L" für "Lesben" oder "lesbisch" steht.

Kritiker feiern die US-Schauspielerin Jennifer Beals für ihre Rolle in der neuen ProSieben-Serie "The L Word - Wenn Frauen Frauen lieben" überschwenglich: "Ähnlich spritzig, durchgestylt und hemmungslos wie "Sex and the City" sorgte die TV-Serie um eine lesbische Community bereits für Top-Quoten in den USA, nicht zuletzt dank Hauptdarstellerin Jennifer Beals."

Woher der Oscar seinen Namen hat, der etwa Mitte der 30er Jahre aufkam, ist nicht eindeutig geklärt. Mehrere Personen beanspruchten das Recht für sich, auf jeden Fall soll er an eine Person namens Oscar erinnert haben (Margeret Herricks Onkel, Bette Davis erster Ehemann usw.) Die Statuette stellt einen schwerthaltenden Ritter dar, der auf einer Filmrolle steht. Die Speichen der Filmrolle symbolisieren dabei die fünf Bereiche der Academy: Schauspieler, Regisseure, Produzenten, Autoren und Techniker.

There are several stories about the nickname's origin, and nobody is completely sure of the truth. The Academy supports this version: In the early '30s, an Academy librarian named Margaret Herrick remarked that the statue looked like her Uncle Oscar. The name stuck, and the Academy staff began referring to the statue as "Oscar." In 1934, Sidney Skolsky mentioned the nickname in a column on Katharine Hepburn's first Best Actress win. The name caught on, and the Academy officially adopted it in 1939.

According to the Academy, the Oscar statuette depicts a crusader knight, grasping a sword. The knight stands on a film reel, with five spokes that represent the five original branches of the Academy: Directors, Actors, Writers, Producers and Technicians.
